  1. RENDEZVOUS WITH B-17S

  3. Recent Allied intelligence reports indicate 
  4. that the Luftwaffe is readying a new jet 
  5. fighter.  Called the Volksjager, or 
  6. "People's Fighter", the Heinkel He 162 is 
  7. a very small single-engine jet fighter.  
  8. Identifiable by its odd top-mounted 
  9. engine, forward cockpit, twin tail fins, 
  10. backward-looking wings, and small size, 
  11. the He 162 should nonetheless be taken 
  12. quite seriously by any pilot or crew who 
  13. encounters it in combat.  Allied aircraft 
  14. design experts believe this little bird may 
  15. be able to turn with our Mustangs and 
  16. even out-climb them.

  18.                     YOUR MISSION

  20. An unusually large number of escort 
  21. fighters have experienced mechanical 
  22. difficulties forcing them to turn back, and 
  23. thereby creating a weak spot in the 
  24. defensive net covering the bomber 
  25. stream headed for Kassel.  You have 
  26. been scrambled to provide protection for 
  27. the vulnerable bombers.  Lead your flight 
  28. of four P-51B Mustangs up from Bonn 
  29. airfield to rendezvous with a formation of 
  30. B-17s en route to bomb the Kassel 
  31. munitions factory.  As you climb to 25,000 
  32. feet, use your map to keep track of the 
  33. bombers' position.  You'll need to reach 
  34. the bombers as quickly as possible, for 
  35. even now they are entering an area 
  36. known to be heavily defended by the 
  37. Luftwaffe.
